Getting Started Right With Prayer
Actively sharing your faith in Jesus Christ through evangelism is an important part of your life as you grow and mature. We want to provide you with resources and ideas to help you in this endevaor. Evangelism is first and foremost a work of God. Therefore, the place to begin your evangelism is always with prayer. Prayer aligns us with the work of God and allows us the privilege of participating in His unfolding plan.
Certainly we need to pray for evangelism and the spread of the gospel. For example, Paul often exhorted the believers to pray for his witness to others (Colossians 4:3,4), even as he prayed for the salvation of his own people (Romans 10:1).
But there are also fresh winds blowing in the spiritual atmosphere of our culture. With these breezes has come openness to prayer as a common spiritual experience. The majority of people today claim prayers as part of their regular way of life. Though there is great divergence in whom they pray to and how they pray, the act of prayer can be common ground. In light of these realities, many have discovered prayer to be an effective means of outreach-praying not only for evangelism, but also prayer as evangelism. So, we encourage you and those in your Impact chapter to start your evangelism outreach first with prayer.

Following Prayer With Sharing Your Faith
Below is a set of three different types of outreaches that are the most effective and will help you to witness to others about Jesus Christ.
- Direct Initiative Evangelism: This is an outreach driven by approaching individuals, usually with surveys, with the plan of sharing the gospel with them in such a way to expect responses. For ideas, click here.
- Attention-Grabbers: This strategy involves causing a scene to get people to stop and watch. The display creates a unique opportunity for people to hear the Gospel at the end of it, as well as through other members of the outreach team going through the audience sharing with the crowd (after the display). The attention grabber can also be a way to advertise another event or create more awareness about your movement. For ideas, click here.
- Gatherings: Organized, scheduled events which gather people, are effective for evangelism. These gatherings can take the place of forums which tackle controversial issues, events that showcase music, movies, or other creative approaches. These events can end with a gospel presentation, or be used to collect contact information to follow up with those who filled out response cards. For ideas, click here.
