The Experience
Check out the personal experiences of Impact 2008 conferees!
For the past few months I’ve been studying the book of 1 Peter. Writing to the dispersed, persecuted church, Peter talks about the correct perspective in the midst of trials. I’ve often struggled with idolizing comfort along with the rest of the society I live in, so the concepts of suffering and submission have been a challenge for me to grasp. God gave me an opportunity to apply what I’ve been learning this winter break. I came to the Impact Movement National Conference in Atlanta, GA on December 26th thinking I was going to help with seminars, fellowship with Christians from across the nation, go to life-changing seminars and sessions, see friends I haven’t seen in months and years, and fellowship with some of my greatest influences in the faith. Although I was able to speak in the seminars to which I was assigned (“Campus Agent Report for Church Duty” and “Mission: Launch Summer ‘09”), I found myself in my hotel room for the majority of my time. The cold that started on Christmas day progressed into a dry cough that gave me a constant headache and an aching, tired body. After seven days of pain, I finally went to the emergency room at 11:50pm on New Year’s Eve with my best friend (now that’s a real friend) and her parents. - Quina P. Man, I miss yall already!!! I personally made a decision to apply to a fellowship, as well as commit to an hour of prayer daily. I want to challenge people reading this to do the same. Can yall imagine what would happen if all the people of God prayed for at least one hour a day??? Today (1/2/09) was day 1 of that commitment and I know this year is gonna be like none other before it. I cannot wait to hear and see how people used the tools they gained at the conference to change the climate of their campus for Christ. And I can't wait to see yall again! The mission is possible because WE act. And because we act, the mission is possible!! - Melisha W.
Can I say how encouraging it is to see the posts from many of you about your i08 experiences? As a staff member with Impact, I can tell you first hand that this conference was total mission possible with God, but my goodness, there were times when it FELT impossible with man. The things we thought had to be in place, or positioned to market and promote this way or that way, man I tell you, to see all of you turn up in the ATL and engage in the mission, it definitely showed me that God does what He does best all by Himself, and any part we play points toward His glory. Seeing each of you in Atlanta blessed me so...it showed me the mission lived out and possible, reminded me that every eblast sent your way, each eCard put on the web, every video project done was because of YOU. That's the best kinda fruit to see in life, the fruit connected to a changed life. Thank you for responding to the mission...and remember, it's not over, Impact's not over because YOU said it's not over, so it's time to ACT now. - Melody C.
